The Audition Process

Auditions for the UCLA Drumline are competitive. Positioning within the line is based on skill level. The battery size is not fixed; the number of instruments fits the number of qualified musicians.

Audition Tape Specifications

All new incoming students interested in auditioning for the drumline must submit by mail an audio cassette, compact disc, or video (DVD, VHS or miniDV) demonstrating ability. Video is preferred, though not required.

Your submission must include the following (played on your intended instrument):

  • A short demonstration of proficiency in a few standard drum rudiments
  • A short prepared piece or etude demonstrating your ability - no longer than five minutes. You can include music from your high school field show or any other performing group.

Please send in your audition recording by August 1st if possible. Mail your submission to:

Gordon Henderson, Director

Everyone accepted into the drumline, including returning members, will audition for a specific section (snares, tenors, basses or cymbals) during the first day of Band Camp on Saturday, September 15, 2007.
