Matt Altimre and Ariel Campos - Percussion Instructors

MATT ALTMIRE received his BA and MM from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he studied with Mitchell Peters, and he is continuing his studies at UCLA in pursuit of a DMA in Percussion Performance. During his prior time at UCLA, he performed regularly with the UCLA Philharmonia, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble.

Matt has also been a Percussion Caption Head and Arranger at Pacific Crest and Yamato Drum and Bugle Corps, and has worked with the Colts and Velvet Knights as well.  As a drum corps performer, Matt spent two years with the Anaheim Velvet Knights, and three years with the Santa Clara Vanguard. A freelance percussionist in the Los Angeles area, he has performed with the Los Angeles Concert Orchestra, the Torrance Symphony, Swing Inc., and GLANK.

Additionally, he has been on the staff of a number of notable high schools and colleges, including Etiwanda High School, Thousand Oaks High School, William S. Hart High School, Long Beach City College, Riverside Community College, and UCLA.  Matt has taught various clinics across the U.S. and Japan, and is an active member of the Percussion Arts Society.

He currently holds faculty positions at Santa Monica College and Mt. San Antonio College.

ARIEL CAMPOS is a music educator and freelance percussionist living in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of California State University, Northridge with a B.M. in percussion performance. His diverse musical back round includes performances with artists and groups such as Country Pop Duo Brooks and Dunn, singers Gloria Loring, and Boca Rosa. Jazz musicians Louie Cruz Beltran, Sal Cracchiolo, Sheila E., Peter Michael Escovedo, conga master Francisco Aguabella, The Young Musician's Foundation Debut Orchestra, The Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra and the American Youth Symphony. He was a member of the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps from 1995-1998, and was an original cast member of the Tony and Emmy award winning musical 'Blast!' which premiered in London. As a solo percussionist Mr. Campos has been featured in concerts and recitals with California State University, Northridge Wind Ensemble, Union High School Percussion Ensemble, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a participant in the 2006 International Marimba Competition in Linz, Austria. Mr. Campos can also be heard as a featured musician on the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the 2007 film 'Bella.'

As an Instructor he has worked with Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps, Yamato Drum And Bugle Corps, and many school programs in Southern California. He is currently the percussion director at William S. Hart High School in Newhall, Ca. The Hart Regiment was a 2007 Bands of America grand national Semi-finalist and the only band in Southern California to win six consecutive Southern California Band and Orchestra Association division championship titles.
